In a country blessed with great holiday destinations the small Spanish owned island of Lanzarote still manages to stand out. Thanks to the fact that this small Canary Island enjoys great weather and sunshine all year round – even in winter. As well as boasting beautiful beaches and some weird and wonderful volcanic scenery.

Lanzarote is one of the seven islands that form the Canarian archipelago. First conquered by Spain the early 1400´s and located off the south west coast of Morocco. A location that creates a semi tropical climate – helping to make the Canaries one of the most popular winter sun destination in the world. And the closest to mainland Europe – at just four-hour flying time from major markets such as the UK and Germany.

Lanzarote Accommodation
There are plenty of great places to stay on the island. With over 200 hotels catering to all tastes and budgets. Along with an abundance of Lanzarote holiday villas and apartments – all of which are much more reasonably priced than on other Spanish holidays islands such as Mallorca and Ibiza.

Travel to Lanzarote
Whilst the island is visited by around 250,000 cruise passengers every year the majority of visitors arrive by air. Touching down at Arrecife aiport on cheap flights to Lanzarote from the UK and other Northern European nations.

Travel on Lanzarote
There is a local bus service on the island but outside of the three ain resorts services can be infrequent. Wit few buses running to nay of the main tourist attractions.

That leaves visitors with a choice between hiring a car, renting a bike or booking a guided tour. Car hire in Lanzarote is cheap and the roads are safe and quiet.
But renting a bike is only for the seriously fit as the island mountainous terrain can provide a gruelling workout.

Guided tours of the island are conducted daily by a number of local tour operators and can be booked easily at your hotel or apartment reception desk.

Must See Attractions
Travelling to Lanzarote without taking in a tour of the Fire Mountain at the Timanfaya National Park is like going to Egypt and ignoring the pyramids. It just ins´t done! As a result the vast majority of tourists take in this incredible sight – created by eruptions hundreds of years ago.

The creations of Cesar Manrique also top most itineraries. As this local artist developed unique visitor attractions such as the Jameos del Agua and the César Manrique Foundation.
